Next Generation iPhone 4G to Launch in Summer 2010
The rumor mill for the next generation iPhone 4G is heating up yet again. According to a tweet posted by Eldar Murtazin (editor in chief of Mobile Review) on his twitter account, Apple has contacted Foxconn regarding orders for the next-gen iPhone. Foxconn is the manufacturer which Apple uses for their various products like the iPhone, Mac Mini and iPod line.
ast month, we informed you about a report from PinchMedia Analytics in which developer Pandav of iBart (a public transportation guide for the San Francisco train system) had a very pleasant surprise to learn. His app was installed and used on a device that identified itself as “iPhone 3,1″. It may be noted that exactly in the same time frame last year, Apple was discovered testing its iPhone 3GS (which is now identified as “iPhone 2,1”) in the San Francisco Bay area.
According to the latest report from DigiTimes, Apple has contacted OmniVision regarding 5 megapixel CMOS image sensor (CIS) orders for the next generation iPhone 4G model which is expected to hit shelves in summer 2010. The order, being placed is for around 45 million CMOS sensors, which is double the estimated from this year. OmniVision is the same company which supplied the 3.2 megapixel CIS for Apple’s iPhone 3GS.
Earlier this month, Foxconn received orders from Apple for the manufacturing of the next-gen iPhone. Foxconn is the manufacturer which Apple uses for their various products like the iPhone, Mac Mini and iPod line.
Apple is expected to unveil the next-generation iPhone at the annual WWDC 2010 conference, which will be held in summer of 2010. [via TiPB]
It could be the end of AT&T’s iPhone exclusivity, the beginning of the Verizon iPhone and the first smartphone in the U.S. to operate on 4G mobile broadband standard, first CDMA iPhone. I’m talking of course about iPhone 4G.
“My sources have confirmed that Apple and Verizon have been testing a iPhone on Verizon’s 4G LTE network.”*
The new information we’ve receives seems to be a part of an ever growing and ultimately hazy rumor of a new iPhone 3,1 or iPhone 4G. We’ve already suggested that the only iPhone 4G we’d care about would come with a different hardware design, so the next technology in mobile broadband speeds (LTE mobile communication systems) and an iPhone handset supporting it would not strike us as hype-worthy news if Apple insists on the same old hardware, even if a Verizon iPhone sells a million more iphones a month. But an earlier rumor of an Apple Tablet possibly coming out Verizon and operating on the company’s LTE network would definitely qualify as hype-worthy. Read this Engadget post. So an Apple LTE Device designated as iPhone 3,1?
All these rumors are surely hinting towards a possible summer 2010 release of iPhone 4G with a faster processor, hopefully with atleast 5 megapixels camera, support for multi-tasking (perhaps?) and other improved functions.
